Monday, Jan. 8: Women in Games Boston hosts its first meetup of the year from 7 p.m. to 10 at Intrepid’s Cambridge office. The guest speaker is Dr. Sarah Zaidan, an assistant professor at Emerson College who teaches video game design and history. The event is free

Thursday, Jan. 11: Join your fellow Boston Uprising fans this Thursday at 8 p.m. at The Greatest Bar in Boston to watch the Uprising play their first regular season match against New York Excelsior. The event is free, admission is 21+ and the match starts at 9 p.m. You might just see us there!

Saturday, Jan 13: UWATCH CSGO Boston Lan is back again! This year the event starts at 12:45 p.m. and is open for team registration only. First place will win a cool $1,000. For more information and registration, go here.

Monday, Jan. 15: Boston Indies hosts a meetup from 6 p.m. to 9, and the venue is to be determined. The focus will be a postmortem on Club Drosselmeyer 1940, what’s described as an “interactive Nutcracker in Swingtime, complete with dancers, a full band, original music, magic, an aerialist, multiple story lines, actors and lots of puzzles.” The event is free.

Saturday, Jan. 20: This is the date for the Boston Festival of Indie Games’ FIG Talks event at the MIT Stata Center. Early bird tickets cost $25 while regular registration costs $35 and at-the-door tickets $45. You can submit a proposal to give a talk here.

Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, to Sunday, Jan. 28: MIT is hosting the 2018 Global Game Jam, the world’s largest game jam event! People of all backgrounds are encouraged to participate. You must people 18 or older to attend, get more info and get your jam on here.

Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 to Sunday, Jan. 28: ELEAGUE Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major is coming to the Agganis Arena for their semi-annual tournament. This is the first time the tournament will be held in Boston, with top CS:GO players competing for a $1,000,000 prize. Tickets for the event start at $120 can be purchased at

Tuesday, Jan. 30: Game Audio Boston hosts a talk with Ethan Fenn, formerly of Harmonix and Fire Hose Games, from 6:30 p.m. to 9. The event is free.


Thursday, April 5, 2018, to Sunday, April 8: PAX East, one of the largest video game and geek culture conventions on the East Coast, runs for four days for the first time. Single-day badges are still available for Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
